John Barboni draws on a diverse background that merges architecture, marketing, art, fashion, and community outreach. His current leadership of Elemental, Sala, and NYC Art, is predicated on a deep understanding of design management and operations.

Mr. Barboni’s architectural experience spans nearly twelve years of projects ranging from private residential, interiors, hospitality, public, institutional, and high-rise, to award winning historic landmark reconstruction and innovative sustainable design. In his former role as Senior Project Manager at SWN Architects, Mr. Barboni worked over the course of nearly a decade to restructure the firm’s operations, overseeing its growth from an architectural staff of three to eighteen. Sharing a strong concern for environmental and social responsibility, Mr. Barboni’s work in sustainable design was showcased in his Energy-Conscious Design lecture for the Kitchawan Institute with Carl Stein, and in articles featured in both Architectural Record and Metropolis Magazine.

Recent projects at Elemental include Mr. Barboni’s lead role on NYC’s first ‘green’ hotel, sustainability consulting for a 275-acre resort development, and brand identity and web design for a progressive Manhattan hotel. His achievements at Elemental have earned Mr. Barboni recent recognition as one of New York City’s most influential professionals by fashion icon Lacoste and South Africa’s Top Billing Magazine and TV series. With additional interviews by Atmosphere Design Magazine, the Seattle Examiner, Startup Nation, and Fortune Small Business and features as a creative leader in D Magazine Italy, Men’s Uno Hong Kong and Uomo Japan, Mr. Barboni’s accomplishments continue to draw international media attention.

Mr. Barboni’s experience is complemented by a background of work in fashion with Ford Models, New York and Best One, Paris. Additionally, as founder of art collective NYCART.org, Mr. Barboni maintains an ongoing commitment to the support of emerging artists and an active involvement in fashion and media events around the world.

Mr. Barboni holds a degree in architecture from the University of California at Berkeley and further studied architecture, economics, art history and Italian in Venice, Italy and New York University. He is a certified RYS200 Yoga Instructor registered with the international Yoga Alliance, and teaches weekly volunteer classes in Manhattan.
